Superior Shores Gaming is navigating Ontario’s new vaccine passport system.
It proof of vaccination along with government issued identification if they wish to enter certain businesses or access certain entertainment venues, including restaurants, theatres, bars, or sporting events.
General Manager Joe Brizard confirms that the hall began in-person bingo around a month and a half ago.
“We’ve had mixed reactions, customers for them it’s a security for because they know everyone’s vaccinated and I thought that could be a positive,” says Brizard. “However, you have some that are maybe not quite informed on all the information and don’t want to get vaccinated and I was most worried about our staff having to deal with any of the issues asking for that information. Overall, I feel like since we’ve started it, it’s been fairly good.”
Brizard adds that people have had to be turned away since the passport came into affect, though Superior Shores Gaming is providing options for the unvaccinated crowd that still wants to be involved in the games.
“People that can’t come in and are not vaccinated, we give them the option of playing curbside,” explains Brizard. “We started curbside before our bingo sessions opened, just to get our customers back in the feel of bingo again. We didn’t have that option before, so as soon as that option was available to us we went and got it all set up and ready to go.”
Brizard notes that while they are still learning while conducting the curbside format, he and his staff have adjusted well and customers are enjoying it as well.
