Toilet Training Cows!

I feel like I’m beating Kelly to the punch on this!

Scientists in New Zealand and Germany have teamed up to try and train cows to use a toilet…well, a ‘MooLoo’. Essentially they are training calves to hold in their pee until they get to a special pen where the urine is gathered, like a toilet. Cattle urine is very high in nitrogen and ammonia, which isn’t great for the environment, obviously, so collecting it and disposing of it safely as opposed to it just going into the ground constantly is a step in the right direction. Apparently calves can be trained, much like toddlers, to hold their pee and go to a designated spot where they are rewarded with a ‘treat’ if they urinate. No word yet on training cows to poop on the potty, but one step at a time, I guess!
