No new forest fires in the most recent report for the northwest region.
This means the active count is currently 56, with the wildfire hazard considered low across the region.
The latest update brought with it even more promising news, says Fire Information Officer Chris Marchand.
“We have no fires with the status of not under control, which is really something we haven’t seen since May,” says Marchand. “The wet weather and cooler temperatures have done a lot to temper the fire situation in the northwest region over the past week or two.”
Two new fires were found in the Thunder Bay sector in the previous report, but both have been declared out.
Marchand went on to say that the future fire situation will depend entirely on the weather, but mentions we are seeing more seasonal conditions.
Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services reminds the public to use caution when performing any outdoor burning. In order to dispose of yard waste and woody debris, use methods such as composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, follow Ontario’s outdoor burning regulations.
Fires are to be ignited no sooner than 2 hours before sunset and extinguished no later than 2 hours after sunrise.
