Ace Caught In Fundraiser Raffle

A fundraiser for the United Way of Thunder Bay has come to an end, bringing in over $33,000 for local organizations.

The Ace of Spades has been found in the United Way and Port Arthur Rotary’s Catch the Ace raffle after six months of weekly draws.

United Way CEO Albert Brulé is impressed with the community’s support for the fundraiser, which supports people dealing with poverty.

“The statement ‘When you win, our community wins’ has never been truer! Together, we raised over $33,000 that was contributed to various organizations to address immediate needs of local people and families,” Brulé says.

The money is going to organizations including Our Kids Count, The Dew Drop Inn, Shelter House, Roots to Harvest, March of Dimes, Boys & Girls Club, Shkoday, and Evergreen, A United Neighbourhood.

“It took 23 draws but the ace of spades couldn’t hide forever,” says Port Arthur Rotary President Jim Madder. “We hope everyone enjoyed the thrill of chasing the ace. Ace Man was spotted all over Thunder Bay! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this exciting campaign and made it a huge success.”

The winning envelope was bought by Kevin Holloway, Steve McAuley, Jim McDonald, Warren Philp, John Stephenson, Laurie Tulloch, Bill Ulakovic, and Brenda Winter. The eight winners take home the weekly jackpot of $494 and the Progressive Jackpot of $19,440.

Another round of Catch the Ace is in the works.
