Donald Milani Denied Reduced Sentence

73-year-old Donald Milani will continue to serve out his 20 year sentence in prison.

A representative for Milani was looking for a 14 year sentence from the Ontario Court of Appeal based on the advanced age of Milani and the amount of time that passed between the attacks and the trial.

In the decision on August 13, the court sided with the original sentence handed down by Justice Helen Pierce on April 21, 2017, calling it a fit sentence for the crimes committed.

Milani was 69 years old when he was handed a 20 year sentence in 2017 for multiple counts of sexual assault, break and enter, robbery, unlawful confinement and intent to commit an indictable offence while masked.

The crimes took place between 1985 and 1987, and although Milani was initially arrested in 1989 the charges were dismissed for lack of evidence at a preliminary hearing.

An OPP investigative team re-opened the case thanks to advances in DNA technology in 2007 and apprehended Milani in 2010.
