Premier Ford Visits Alstom Plant

A visit from Premier Doug Ford to the Alstom Plant in Thunder Bay.

Union President Dominic Pasqualino says Ford stopped by Tuesday to thank the workers for all they’ve done and ensure that he has their backs.

“We finished up the bi-level cars and now we’re completing those streetcars we’re doing the automatic train control on, so we’re almost done those,” Pasqualino noted. “I mentioned to him that we need to look further down the road and our biggest goal right now is securing some more subway cars, because that’s what we’re going to need in a couple years. That’s what we’re going to be needing in a couple years, and our cars are being produced so quickly right now that we can’t just look at what we have right now, we have to look at what we can build in the future. So hopefully, we can get a subway car contract.”

Pasqualino isn’t entirely sure whether any more funding will be headed their way, and expects more information when the Premier returns for his next visit in the spring.

The Alstom plant will be starting the production of their LRV car contract in the first quarter of 2022.
