Teen Game Show In Thunder Bay

Pop Whiz, a teen pop culture game show, is in Thunder Bay this weekend.

They are filming Friday and Saturday at the marina after previous stops in Timmins, North Bay, and Cornwall.

The show is currently putting together their first season, and is hosted by Canadian internet personality Gunnarolla.

“The idea is to bring a traveling game show to the community and test the teenage contestants knowledge of everything pop culture, so music, movies, sports, celebrities, fashion, we run the whole gambit,” said creative consultant Ryan Vickers. “My hope is that we continue on for seasons to come and branch out across Canada as we see restrictions ease, and who knows.”

Vickers went on to explain how contestants were chosen for the show.

“We had people audition online, and along with social media, Facebook, things like that,” explains Vickers. “They then went to our virtual audition portal and they filled out an application form, and just did a little video about themselves just to tell us they’re comfortable in front of the camera.”

The show will air on GameTV in 2022.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
