Police Warn Of Paycheque Scam

Thunder Bay Police are warning local businesses to watch for a scam that tries to steal employees’ paycheques.

Recently, they heard from someone who fell victim to a scammer posing as an employee over email, asking to update their direct deposit information.

The victim updated the employee’s payroll information as requested, and that worker’s next paycheque went to the scammer instead.

Police remind you that fraudsters can have enough information to impersonate an employee, so you should take extra steps to make sure the request is legitimate.

To learn more about recently reported frauds and scams, and how you can best protect yourself, police direct you to visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Cetnre online.
