CEDC, City Offering Help With Gatherings

Tourism Thunder Bay and the Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC) want to help with the eventual resumption of large meetings.

Officials are launching the Bring it Home initiative, which will help with up to 25% of the total event budget to bring a meeting to a Thunder Bay hotel or motel. The money wouldn’t need to be re-paid.

“Attracting organization’s corporate or sport event to Thunder Bay is a major contributor to our local tourism economy that’s been hit hard by COVID-19” said Paul Pepe, Manager of Tourism Thunder Bay. “As the time to meet again approaches quickly, local meeting influencers and planners play a key role in planning and welcoming their regional, provincial and national counterparts to meet here. We’re encouraging everyone who leads or works in a business, sector or organization to think about bringing future gatherings here.”

Under the Roadmap to Reopen plan put out by the province of Ontario, larger indoor gatherings wouldn’t be allowed until Step Three.

The plan will move into Step Two as of Wednesday, June 30, with each step lasting a minimum of 21 days.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
