FWFN Seeking Potential Burial Sites Investigation

A call for the federal government to investigate known and suspected burial sites within Fort William First Nation Traditional Territory.

Chief Peter Collins made the call Friday in the wake of the ongoing discovery of mass burial grounds linked to Residential Schools.

Collins wants to see investigations at the former St. Josephs Indian Residential School, Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital and the former Fort William First Nation reserve site on Kaministiquia River.

Collins further stated, “Fort William First Nation calls on all Churches, the governments (both provincial and federal) and The Crown to cooperate by releasing any and all full or partial records when requested to do so and to not put a limit to the funding that is made available to each First Nation in the country, to ensure that every child is found, identified and returned home.”

The statement went onto call for a swift and actionable response from the Federal Government.
