53-Year-Old Picked Up In Standoff

A Thunder Bay man will be in court to face charges for his part in a Simpson Street standoff.

It all started just before 8:00 p.m. Monday at a house on Simpson Street as police responded to reports of a disturbance.

The 53-year-old man to douse the area in lighter fluid and set a fire with a flare gun when police attempted to make contact. The accused also threatened to throw boiling oil at officers.

The five hour plus standoff ended with a brief struggle around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday after the accused fired a flare gun at officers.

The identity of the accused will be revealed only after the charges are read in court.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
