There is concern about a potential conflict of interest for Thunder Bay Police Chief Sylvie Hauth coming from family members of Indigenous people who died in Thunder Bay.
The statement from Falconers Law Firm indicates families of nine Indigenous youth are sounding the alarm over the possible role of the Chief in re-investigations of the deaths.
The firm points out two years after serious deficiencies in police investigations were revealed in the Broken Trust Indigenous People and the Thunder Bay Police Service report, their requests for assurances the Chief has pulled herself away from the investigations have gone unanswered, leading them to think of a possible conflict of interest.
Family members are gathering at the Victoria Inn, Tuesday afternoon.
Julian Falconer, the lawyer for the DeBungee family, will also take part.
Acadia News will have a reporter at that event.
