The Medical Officer of Health for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit can’t understand why schools are still closed.
Dr. Janet DeMille, responding to an open letter from Doug Ford Thursday, says she does respect the tough decision that the government faces but that this letter does nothing other than delay the re-opening of schools.
“We’re prepared to support the re-opening of in-person learning and work with the schools and school boards the way we have always done,” stressed DeMille, “I think we are ready to open that is safe enough to open and that there are a lot more harms happening right now that can be tied to the closure of in-person learning rather than COVID-19.”
The Province decided to put all elementary and secondary schools to remote learning as of April 12 with an initial potential return date of April 30.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has an active COVID-19 case count of 19 heading into Friday.
