Minister Hopes Sports Can Boost Economy

The resumption of professional sports and sports tourism will be a massive economic generator for provincial recovery.

This is something Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries, Lisa MacLeod believes and is currently working towards.

“I’m having active conversations with the tourism folks in the ministry, as well as the sport folks, to see how we can come out with a package in the next several months with respect to sport hosting.”

McLeod goes on to mention targeted investments will be crucial, and that sports as a whole will be massive for economic recovery post-pandemic.

“To make sure those hotels end up get filled up again, so do those restaurants. You know, we recognize we’re in a global pandemic, and we’re learning lots of lessons from places that have gone through those waves before us.”

MacLeod can’t say when a government plan will be unveiled.
