Kings Gearing Up For Play In The GTHL

The Thunder Bay Kings will be included in the 2021-2022 Greater Toronto Hockey League season.

The Kings U-15, U-16 and U-18 squads were approved to skate in the league this year but those plans were scrapped last October in favour of combination of a bubble format and an invite as a guest team for the 2020-2021 Superior International Junior Hockey League campaign.

Kings President Michael Power said the plans are subject to the return to play guidelines as set out by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and Toronto Public Health.

“Players will return to the ice the first week of September for tryouts,” said Power. “Decisions on the rosters are expected to be made by September 16. From that date until October 27 will be a period of time to allow teams to hold practices, exhibition games and get into tournaments before the start of the regular season on November 1st.”

Power also indicated the season is scheduled to run 16 weeks, through to March 2.

“Then there will be the GTHL Playoffs. For us it’ll also include the regional playdowns for the U-15, U-16 and U-18 teams. The U-15 and U-18 squads will compete for the provincial and national championship.”
