A line has been drawn in the sand by Thunder Bay’s mayor when it comes to how people handle the province’s approach to restrictions.
Bill Mauro pointed out during a recent virtual townhall meeting he will not do what many in the community are wondering about.
“The province is making these rules, so, the answer, I’m sorry, no, I’m not going to publicly encourage people to break the rules, and break the law,” said the mayor.
He has been working, along with many other mayors and community leaders, to convince the government otherwise about it’s lack of regional approach. “I’ve been pretty active, certainly in the last month and if not before in terms of advocating for a regional approach, certainly in outdoor recreation, and certainly now with our numbers being what they are.”
Some local businesses have said they may open regardless of the Stay at Home order remaining until June 2nd.
The mayor adds there are many times when disagreement on policy happens, and it’s up to elected representatives to advocate beyond that.
