The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre has admitted a pair of COVID-19 patients from Manitoba.
Acadia News has confirmed with both local officials and Shared Health Manitoba that the patients, who are both in stable condition, were transferred to the hospital on Tuesday.
“TBRHSC has received a total of two patient transfers from Manitoba to assist them with their capacity issues,” stated Marcello Bernardo, Acting Manager of
Communications & Engagement. “These transfers have had no impact on the service provided to regional patients. Given that our COVID+ numbers have reduced substantially, we cannot provide any further detail without breaching protected health information.”
Meanwhile Shared Health Manitoba Spokesperson Sara Locke said the move was made to shore up staffing resources in the Intensive Care Units while immediately providing a much-needed boost to capacity.
“In a 96-hour period from May 13 to 17, Manitoba ICUs admitted 34 patients with COVID-19,” indicated Locke, “To put (that) into context, that is nearly half of our normal pre-COVID baseline capacity (72) in critical care for our province. This does not include patients who require care in an ICU for non-COVID reasons.”
