Premier Wants Action On International Flights

Another demand from Ontario’s premier for the federal government to toughen restrictions on flights into Canada.

Doug Ford points out 90% of COVID-19 variants have come from people flying in, yet one third of people landing are not following restrictions once on the ground.

“One third of the people that are supposed to be staying in a quarantine hotel, don’t even bother to stay in there. We have thousands of people that come through Pearson [International Airport], 150,000 the last two weeks, crossing the borders into Canada, with two separate rules,” says Ford.

The premier was answering questions from the opposition NDP as to why outdoor restrictions are not eased.

On another issue, he’s defending the closure of outdoor recreational facilities and golf courses.

Doug Ford points to medical experts who advise it, unless wearing a mask. “How many of those people, when you drive by those playgrounds, you see wearing a mask… you don’t see any of them wearing a mask. So there’s a little bit of a message… limit mobility, make sure everyone stays at home. In other cases, if they go out, everyone has to wear a mask.”

The premier also points to the dwindling COVID-19 case numbers provincially.
