Majority Of Teachers Receive First Dose

Another step in the right direction for local high school teachers.

President of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation Rich Seeley said the vast majority of his members, as well as the Lakehead Public School Board, and Thunder Bay Catholic staff, were vaccinated against COVID-19 this weekend.

“Having our members with that first shot certainly has our minds turning to a more positive view, looking at maybe we get back to learning in June, possibly something that starts to resemble normalcy in the fall,” hopes Seeley.

The union president adds the local health unit will decide on whether to allow for a little bit of time in-class before the summer.

“Certainly with some enhanced protocols, and more rapid testing of asymptomatic people, then possibly there might be a path of looking to head back for a few weeks,” says Seeley.

The union officials points out any sense of returning to normal is worth it for everyone.
