It’ll be full steam ahead come June to finish rebuilding the Boulevard Lake dam.
Current River councillor Andrew Foulds is excited at the prospects, including the input Thunder Bay’s Heritage Committee has had.
“The history of that area, and how it’ll be protected. You’re going to see wonderful new railings, you’re going to see a widened path, you’ll see a beautiful new viewing deck,” says Foulds.
As far as he knows, the timeline and cost is on schedule, with no expected overruns as the second and final phase gets underway soon.
“Remember that it was a $7.5 to 8-million project, I mean, it’s a huge project, with a lot of complexities. You’re talking about a 100-year old structure, so I’m so looking forward to what the product looks like when it’s done this fall,” notes the councillor.
Foulds points out it can be challenging in deciding where to put tax dollars, whether it’s for services, or capital expenditures such as buildings. “Capital expenditures take on a lot of different forms, from small things to very, very large things. So, it’s very different than my home, or your home, in terms of that capital expenditures. Sometimes it can be very overwhelming.”
The city councillor admits there are many nights he is up thinking about how to prioritize spending, and how to build the community.
