Green Bins by 2025

Thunder Bay is planning to have a green bin program in place by 2025.

Manager of solid waste and recycling, Jason Sherband, explains what phase the rollout is currently in.

“So it’s really in its infancy stages, so you know 2021 is really where we want to start to look at how do we integrate that into our system,” Sherband said.

Many municipalities in Ontario have already implemented green bin programs, which has been proven to defer large amounts of waste away from landfills.

Deferring waste away from landfills would elongate their life, benefitting the region environmentally and financially.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
