Soccer Northwest Nervous About City Talks

The lengthy multi-use indoor turf facility debate is frustrating the President of Soccer Northwest.

As city council prepares to meet to discuss options such as location, or its structure, Michael Veneziale tells us we keep coming back to this point.

“We go through the entire thing over and over again. I think this is the 3rd rendition that we’re coming back on this, so I’m just very nervous that all that is going to come back up again, and we’re going to waste years getting back to the exact same point we were at just prior to the tender being voted on,” states Veneziale.

He adds city staff have told him not much will be saved moving it from Chapples Park.

Veneziale further tells us while he prefers a permanent building, he thinks the city will try for a dome to save money, even though the last dome collapsed in winter. “I do have more faith with a city facility, rather than a private one. And the reason I say that is that both times that a private developer had a bubble, it was not maintained properly, because it was so cold.”

The Soccer Northwest President repeats all community engagement and consultant reports pointed to a full size facility at Chapples Park.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
