Shipping Season Begins

Thunder Bay’s port is officially open, but the pandemic means there will be no Top Hat Ceremony for the first vessel combination to arrive.

The shipping season started with the arrival of the tug Sharon M1 and barge Huron Spirit late Friday night.

Port officials say grain loading operations are also underway, with eight cargo vessels expected to be in the harbour by the end of the weekend.
