Northside Fire A Possible Arson

The investigation into the fire which destroyed a northside building has been handed over to police as a possible arson probe.

Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue official Kevin Anderson tells us after some weekend interviews and their examination of the scene at Bay and Machar, they concluded the cause was suspicious.

Anderson explained, “With the help of police they are now looking into potential arson” because the fire potentially started in a bathroom garbage can and spread into the attic.

The building housed apartment units and a business.

Crews were called to the scene at around 5 pm on Friday and it quickly became obvious it was going to be a major blaze.

Police closed streets around the area until Saturday afternoon.
