Driver Clocked At Over 170kms On Highway 17

A British Columbia man has been charged with stunt driving on Highway 17.

Provincial police tell us at around 6pm, Wednesday, they clocked a vehicle doing more than 170kms in the 90 zone west of Shabaqua.

The 32-year-old was given a 7 day license suspension, and the vehicle towed and impounded for 7 days.

Police add the first time you’re caught there’s also a fine of $2,000, but that can rise to $10,000, along with possibly six months in jail and 2-year license suspension.

Conviction accumulates six demerit points, which stay on your record for two years, and all convictions remain on the public record for three years.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
