COVID Situation At Hospital Improving

The coronavirus problems at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre are not as dire as they were last week.

Spokesperson Dr. Peter Voros tells us the outbreak in 1A of the hospital is improving daily.

“A number of the patients have been well enough that they’ve been discharged so the number of patients that remain on 1A from that outbreak has been decreasing. We’re at a number where we’re able to shift those patients to a part of the unit that we can block off,” said Voros

The outbreak in 1A started with close to 20 patients but that has now been reduced to fewer than 10.

Voros also tells us they hope they can stop diverting patients away from the hospital to southern Ontario soon.

He says “In total over the last week we have transferred seven patients from the ICU and the province has redirected six patients from the region so that’s a total of 13 patients over the last week.”

As of this morning, there were 41 patients in the hospital diagnosed with COVID-19 with 11 of those in ICU.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
