35th Rotary House Lottery Launches

It’s a big change for the 35th annual Fort William Rotary House Lottery.

Chair of the House Lottery Committee Dave Knutson explains this year will not feature any in-person house tours, and they’ve kept some other adjustments from last year.

“We actually kept the extended length of the lottery, so we’re going right through until October 11th this year again for the grand prize draw, and we actually applied for an electronic license which means we’re selling online this year,” he says, adding you can also purchase tickets by mail.

This year’s home on Bishop Court is valued at over at $624,000.

Knutson calls it a “strange” 35th anniversary.

“[We] had 34 years that had, at least the majority of the years, person-to-person sales, the open houses–which, obviously, with the COVID situation, we can’t do–[and sales] through local businesses, again we can’t do that,” he says.

Club President Cynthia Judge is confident their 35th lottery will see plenty of interest in the Sherwood Estates home.

“We’re looking forward to the support of the community again, because they’ve always come through for us. We hope they will again this year, to help with our charities [because] they really need our help,” she explains.

Organizers are also offering $60,000 worth of early bird and cash prizes.

There will be six $1,000 early Bird draws on April 2nd, followed by nine weekly $1,000 draws. Bi-weekly $5,000 cash draws begin June 18th. All cash prizes will take place at 11:30 am at the office of BDO, 1095 Barton Street. All tickets for cash draws must be purchased by 11:59 p.m. the Sunday preceding the draw.
