Councillor Expects Red Light Camera Feedback

The city’s red light camera pilot project is expected to be a hot topic at tonight’s McIntyre Ward meeting.

The proposed venture, which would see ten intersections with the technology, has been passed on to city administration after council instructed them to gather more public feedback.

McIntyre Councillor Albert Aiello isn’t crazy about the proposed cost of the project

“It’s basically $900,000 a year to maintain these cameras. Based on that cost we’d need as many as 19 tickets a day and 3,000 tickets a year just to break even on the cameras,” Aiello stated. “These cameras are stationary for a five year period. It would be different if you could take them off and put them in different locations throughout the year. Otherwise I feel they becomes ineffective after a while.”

The budget, infrastructure projects review and the ongoing pandemic are also on the agenda.

Tuesday’s meeting gets started at 7:00 p.m.
