I am a HUGE Dr. Seuss fan, I have 4 Dr. Seuss tattoos that are always big hits with kids and adults alike, and I have been reading his stories to my kids for years. I’ve given ‘Oh The Places You’ll Go’ and ‘The Lorax’ as gifts to friends and to their children for as long as I can remember. However…not all of Dr. Seuss’ books are perfect. In fact many of his books could do with a warning ahead of time that they were written in a different time and were in keeping with the views of the western world at the time (sigh). We’ve been seeing warnings like this showing up on Warner Brothers cartoon collections and, recently, on the Muppet Show series now streaming online. Dr. Seuss Enterprises today (Dr. Seuss’ birthday) announced that they would cease sales of six books because of their wrong and hurtful depictions of people. I have about half of the books on this list and I can completely understand and agree with why they are stopping sales. I have been cringing at pictures and changing words every time I read them to my kids. Check out the list and the announcement from Dr. Seuss Enterprises below!
