$126K Invested In Oliver Paipoonge

Oliver Paipoonge is getting a helping hand to fix up its infrastructure.

The federal and provincial governments announced they’re investing in maintenance and renovations for the NorWest Arena, Rosslyn and Murillo libraries, the Rosslyn Community Centre, and the Murillo Hall.

Today’s funding announcement adds up to $126,000 from higher levels of government, and an additional $46,000 from the municipality itself.

Mayor Lucy Kloosterhuis explains it’s a big help since they need to devote much of their infrastructure budget to road maintenance.

“Very often when we do capital budgets, some of these other items on our ask list tend to get pushed off to the next year, and sometimes to the year after that,” she notes.

Kloosterhuis says the arena has become even more of a focal point for the municipality because of the Kam River Fighting Walleye Superior International Junior Hockey League team, which makes it even more important to maintain.

“Once the building starts to leak, it’s going to cost a lot more than it does now,” she points out.
