Six priority challenges have been identified in the ongoing work on preventing crime in Thunder Bay.
Crime Prevention Co-ordinator Lee-Ann Chevrette reported to council Monday night that the Steering Committee for the Community Safety and Well-Being planning has approved the challenges that’ll be the focus going forward.
- Racism and discrimination
- Housing
- Mental Well-Being
- Poverty Reduction and Financial Empowerment
- Community violence with a focus on gender-based violence
- Supports for children, youth and families
Chevrette says the challenges were selected based on a number of factors:
- Review of both key challenges and priorities identified during the Phase 1 community engagement/
consultation process - Community-level data which includes crime, community safety, health and well-being
Phase 2 Community Engagement Process will run until March 26th.
