It’s the news that hockey players, parents, coaches and other volunteers were dreading to hear.
All central hockey associations made the decision, in cooperation with Hockey Northwestern Ontario and the Chief Medical Officer, to end the 2020-2021 hockey season.
The decision was reached Wednesday night with the recent spike of coronavirus cases in Thunder Bay.
“We would like to thank all coaches and volunteers for their time and efforts in providing the programs we were able to in a COVID-19 restrictive year,” a statement says. “Your contribution to our sport during a pandemic is admirable and would not be able to happen without your help.”
The written statement goes onto say: “Although it wasn’t the season we all hoped it would be, we encourage you to start looking towards next year. The decision to cancel the rest of the season is in effort to help give you a better season next year.”
