Unifor is asking the federal government to invest in Thunder Bay’s Alstom plant.
The union has submitted its 2021 budget recommendations, which include a call for at least $180-million to buy streetcars from the plant.
Unifor also wants to see investments in national rail service, a national public transit strategy, and a similar wide-reaching plan for childcare.
It’s also asking for strategies to help sectors like energy, auto, aviation, and media recover.
It’s emphasizing the need for workers transition to new jobs and possibly new industries as part of a major COVID-related economic change.
