Valentine’s Day Memorial Walk Gathers Virtually

The lockdown is not cancelling an annual event honouring missing and murdered Indigenous people.

The 14th annual Valentines Day Memorial Walk is being held virtually, starting at noon today.

The event was started by Sharon Johnson to remember her sister, Sandra, who was murdered on February 13, 1992.

This year, organizers are using the walk to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Men and Boys.

They explain that instead of the usual walk from City Hall to the CLE Heritage Building, you can walk on your own while still keeping your distance from others.

They also ask you to post a photo of your walk on social media with the hashtag #WeWalkForMMIWGMB.

The event will kick off at noon with an opening ceremony broadcast on Facebook Live.
