Whether To Sell City Parkades Or Not?

City administration will report back to council on the possibility of selling the Waterfront and Victoriaville parkades.

Originally At Large Councillor Aldo Ruberto wanted to make this an issue for the 2021 budget but decided to take the report route instead.

“Is the municipal government supposed to be in the parkade business?” asked Ruberto to council Monday night. “Are we supplementing these parkades just for people to park, it doesn’t make sense going forward.”

The motion just passed 7-6 with fellow At Large councillor Rebecca Johnson voting against it. She’s not even concerned with seeing the report and questioned why we’re talking about this with that site being re-imagined.

“We’re going to be at some point in time tearing down Victoriaville. Who wants to buy a parkade that’s beside that eventually demolished site? It just doesn’t make any sense,” Johnson said.

Administration now has the task of putting together a report to answer the questions of council.
