LU Settles Discrimination Lawsuit

It’s the end of the legal battle between Lakehead University and its former law school Dean.

The university confirms that the discrimination lawsuit filed by Angelique EagleWoman has been “resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the parties.”

EagleWoman resigned as Dean of the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law in 2018.

A statement filed a few months later said she was taking legal action against the institution, suing them for at least $2.6 million for constructive dismissal and racial discrimination.

The suit was filed with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

EagleWoman was the first Indigenous woman to have been hired for such a position in Canada, but said she faced systemic racism during her time in the job.
