Latest Habitat Homes Complete

Two families are settling into their new homes from Habitat for Humanity.

The Keefe and Woodbeck families are each getting one side of a duplex on Leith Street near the city’s south core.

They moved in at the start of the month.

New owners Melissa Keefe and Shanda Woodbeck both say they’re excited to have homes to call their own.

“I can actually say ‘I’m a homeowner,'” Keefe says. “It means no more rent, and it means that I can actually save for the future of my children.”

Woodbeck says the home means a lot to her.

“I’m at the point in my life where I don’t want to rent anymore. I want to start investing in a place of my own, a place where I see myself living for a long time. I’m really excited for my family to finally be able to settle into something permanent and build some memories there,” she notes.

CEO of Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay Lana Vukelic says handing over the keys to both families is especially gratifying during the pandemic.

“We are so happy to know that these two families have taken possession of their homes and that they will start this next chapter in their lives with a foundation built on strength, stability and self-reliance,” she explains.

The organization’s next home build will be at 211 Heron Street, and is set to break ground in the Spring.
