Man Charged After Taxi Driver Threatened

A 40-year-old Thunder Bay man is facing charges after a cab driver was assaulted and the car stolen.

Police say the driver went to pick someone up in the 500 block of Cumberland Street North, around 2am, Friday morning.

While heading to a Frederica Street address in the south end, police say the man attacked and threatened the driver, who managed to get away.

The accused took the car, but was found by police with the car on Amber Drive.

He did not immediately comply with demands to surrender, but eventually was taken into custody.

Police add he appeared in bail court, but remains in custody, with another court appearance scheduled for Monday.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
