Alstom Acquisition Complete In Thunder Bay

It is now official, Alstom has taken over operations at the former Bombardier plant.

Union official Dominic Pasqualino tells us the employees were given a video conference pep talk Monday which seemed to instill some confidence for the employees who are still working there.

“I think the rank and file are happy to see new ownership…I think there’s a sense of optimism amongst the crew,” explains Pasqualino.

However, the union official says he will only be satisfied once there’s a new contract for the plant saying “This is very early in the purchase process…hopefully in the meantime the federal and the provincial governments get together and sign contracts for streetcars and subway cars.”

Alstom purchased Bombardier Transportation for $6.8 billion after announcing the takeover one year ago.

While signs outside the Montreal Street plant have not changed yet, Pasqualino explains all signs inside the building say ‘Alstom.’
