Terrace Bay Mayor Jody Davis is pushing back when it comes to the future of Superior North EMS.
Davis pointed to three issues with the report done by both SNEMS and Performance Concepts Consulting based in Toronto, which includes what he feels was a lack on consulting.
“We will consult them as we move on. Well that’ll be after the decision is made so that’s not consulting that’s informing,” Davis said.
The Mayor also points to a potential reduction of coverage on the north shore by three ambulances and having just one facility for both Schreiber and Terrace Bay.
“We’d support an increase in the levy somewhat if that’s what is required, we’re not against that but what we can’t support is an increase in services in Thunder Bay at the expense through a reduction of services on the north shore area,” stressed Davis.

The Mayor remains hopeful that council won’t reduce emergency services to communities outside of Thunder Bay, and points to a previous quote from both current Mayor Bill Mauro and former Mayor Keith Hobbs.
“What’s good for Thunder Bay is good for the district and what’s good for the district is good for Thunder Bay, well this doesn’t fit in that scenario,” added Davis.
The report itself will be back before council by April 30th.
