Government Claims $7B Cut In Red Tape

Major optimism from Ontario’s Economic Development Minister for the province’s future.

In a recent interview with Acadia news, Vic Fedeli pointed out manufacturers are re-locating to Ontario because the government cut $7-billion from the cost of doing business, meaning this province will be more than OK. “We’re going to come roaring back. Think about this…. this morning 30,000 more people woke up to go to a job in manufacturing than before COVID.”

The government says car makers are investing billions here, and companies making personal protective equipment are setting up shop.

The Economic Development Minister added he can account for every penny of the 7-billion dollars reduced, attracting manufacturers including car makers. “Ford, Fiat Chrysler, General Motors… in November, announced $5-billion in new investments. And just this past week, General Motors announced another billion dollars.”

Fedeli says businesses told them the cost of doing business is what caused them to hesitate investing here.

Thunder Bay-Superior North Liberal MPP Michael Gravelle tells us he has yet to see any of that optimism translate to the north, including help for the local Alstom plant.

Thunder Bay-Atikokan NDP MPP Judith Monteith-Farrell expressed similar concerns for the local Alstom plant, adding the government has not come through as other levels of government to help with mass transit. She adds Doug Ford is sitting on billions of COVID-19 funding.
