Local Officials Adjust COVID-19 Vaccine Plan

Residents in long-term care will only receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the coming weeks.

The local vaccine program was adjusted Monday in response to the province’s update on the Pfizer vaccination rollout.

Officials indicate the goal, pending vaccine availability, is to administer first doses by February 5th with second doses happening within 21-27 days.

The plan to vaccinate northern and remote First Nations communities doesn’t change.

More than 2,600 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Thunder Bay, with every long term care resident who requested the vaccine now being administered it.

Over half of the long term care staff have also been vaccinated, some with second doses already.
