LTC Residents Get Initial Vaccine Dose

The COVID-19 vaccine has been delivered to all eligible long-term care residents in the city.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit says that adds up to 95% of all residents receiving their first dose.

“To have the first round of vaccinations completed at these long-term care homes is a significant achievement. The protection of long-term care homes is an important first priority, as we have seen the impact this virus has had in these settings,” said Dr. Janet DeMille, Medical Officer of Health. “I’d like to thank all those that contributed to this effort, particularly the staff of the long-term care homes that have been working so hard throughout this whole pandemic, and with the vaccine delivery.”

However, the TBDHU says care homes must continue with infection prevention and control measures as it takes time for the immune system to develop a response to the vaccine.

The Health Unit is preparing to deliver the the second dose to residents, and begin planning for distributing the vaccine to long-term care homes in the District.
