Lockdown Protest On Memorial Avenue

Some business people are angered as the result of the province’s pandemic lockdown.

Thunder Bay business owner Jamie Gauvreau joined others in a Monday afternoon protest in the area of Memorial and Central Avenues.

“We need to reopen, we’re suffering, we’re starving…I believe that we can run safely, we proved it…for six months that we can run safely,” explained Gauvreau.

The small business owner adds most of the COVID-19 cases in the city come from travel or health care and not small business adding, “There’s no reason us locals should be suffering the way we are.”

He tells us his hair salon takes great pains to make sure everything is sanitized thoroughly to keep all customers safe noting he does not see the big box stores taking that much care.

Another “slap in the face” says Gauvreau, is that schools are back in session pointing out “If schools are in and Walmart is open us small businesses should be able to run.”
