Protection Beefed Up For Parole Officers

There will be improved safety equipment for probation and parole officers working in northern Ontario.

The provincial government is providing two-way voice and text communication, as well as technology that detects when an officer has fallen, or is not able to respond, and silent alarm activation should someone be in crisis.

The government has so far spent about $85,000 on this equipment for those working in remote areas, while ensuring offenders are complying with court orders.

There was a successful pilot of this program in the fall of 2019.
