A local company is giving a boost to suicide prevention services.
Russel Metals Inc. is donating $10,000 to the local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
The donation is in honour of the family of a local employee, George Strandberg, who lost his son Ryan to suicide.
“Our family realized that we had a story to tell relating to mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Together, we never thought our son’s life would end like this. But we feel by talking about it, we’re breaking down the barriers of stigma, opening doors to having conversations about mental health issues and showing how it affects us all,” says Strandberg.
The money will help fund suicide intervention training and other programs to reduce the stigma around mental health issues. The two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) training will start in the new year at the CMHA in honor of Ryan Strandberg.
