Feds, Province Invest In Atikokan Sewage System

Two levels of government come together to invest in Atikokan.

The Government of Canada invests $1,166,964 while the province is contributing $972,373 towards upgrading the efficiency and capacity of the town’s wastewater treatment plant, which will help protect the the Atikokan River.

“Investments in essential public infrastructure are vital to building healthy and resilient communities,” says Marcus Powlowski, MP for Thunder Bay-Rainy River. “The upgrades to the Atikokan sewage system will ensure residents benefit from safe and reliable essential services for years to come, while also protecting the Atikokan River.”

Powlowski made the announcement on behalf of the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Catherine McKenna.

The work also includes the replacement of three blowers and an aeration system to reduce operating costs and energy consumption.

The town of Atikokan is contributing $778,073.
