Public Schools Prepared For More Challenges

COVID-19 challenges aren’t over for Lakehead Public Schools heading into the new year.

Director of Education Ian MacRae says while the vaccine provides a ray of hope, the obstacles of the pandemic won’t be gone right away.

“The ongoing situation with the virus is indeed problematic, and I think with people becoming, for lack of a better word, COVID tired, I think we’re going to have a difficult time going forward in the first few months of the new year,” MacRae says.

He adds some COVID-19 precautions like wearing masks will likely still be around by the start of next school year.

Looking back at this year, he says the transition to online learning presented some challenges. However, it’s made the board more prepared for situations that force them to cancel in-person lessons.

“So the lessons learned there are going to be invaluable when we’re faced with another situation that requires us to present lessons virtually, or online, or remotely,” he explains.
