FWFN Relaxes Checkpoint Scrutiny

A COVID-19 checkpoint set up at the Fort William First Nation remains in place.

However, security official Joseph McCollum tells us they are not stopping every vehicle coming into the reserve.

“Last time we were supposed to stop every car, get out and take down names and addresses to make sure everyone who was out here or driving through was going home because we were on lockdown…but now we are just monitoring licence plates,” explains McCollum.

He indicates vehicles with Ontario licence plates are not being stopped, but those from outside the province will be and their access will be restricted.

The checkpoint officer adds if the COVID situation intensifies again in Thunder Bay they will be stopping all cars coming into the community.
