More fraud perpetuated by criminals in Thunder Bay, this time with promises of alleged job opportunities.
City police say victims are contacted by someone claiming to be a job recruiter, in some cases with a local car dealership. Several times, the fraudster has used the identity of a real local person and dealership during a Skype call.
Police say they are still working on how the scam is exactly done, but at some point the victim may be asked for a payment, and in at least one case, in the form of gift cards.
A reminder to hang up on any unsolicited calls, and never trust caller ID as that can be tampered with. Police add these people are very good a creating a sense of urgency, and for you to talk to potentially vulnerable family or friends who could become a victim.
